Monica is a carer. She looks after her husband who, because of
his stroke in 1995, has lost the use of words and is in a wheelchair.
In this easy-to-read booklet she describes her emotions as she
battles for her husband in hospital to obtain the level of care
needed for someone who cannot explain when he is in pain, and to
have acknowledged his right to be consulted about medical procedures.
Monica does not flinch from painful and difficult issues. She speaks
frankly about her fears, and as frankly about the change in her
relationship with her husband.
''I wrote this as part of my rehabilitation," writes Monica.
For anyone facing a relationship changed by the onset of a disability,
this is an enriching and compelling account.
